This demonstration project could lead to further projects and be part of the birth of a new
Industry in the Western Isles and elsewhere.
Local workers and businesses will gain from the 18-month long construction period as well as the on-going operation of the breakwater. The project has the potential to create around 50 direct jobs during the construction phase which will also support other businesses to the benefit of the Western Isles economy.
The SWEP could provide some protection for a slipway facility in Siadar Bay. It is anticipated that this facility would help to develop small boat, commercial and leisure craft facilities.
With parts of the scheme located on shore, the community owned Galson Estate Trust will benefit from rental payments, helping support the trust and its activities.
